DESCRIPTION
Make your dream come true with the Enriched program for access to driving heavy vehicles (PEACVL) which trains you to drive a heavy vehicle much faster than you think!
This program is intended to help drivers with probationary licences obtain a Class 1, 2 or 3 driver’s licence more quickly and with safety in mind.
Candidates must complete a training program to drive a truck, bus or straight-body truck offered by a designated training centre (CFTR or CFTC), followed by a period of supervised on‑the-job training to help them find jobs and become accustomed to working in the occupation.
OBJECTIVES
- Turn participants into professional drivers who practice safe, cooperative and responsible behaviour on the road;
- Enable participants to effectively carry out the duties of their heavy vehicle driver occupation;
- Help participants find jobs and become accustomed to working in the occupation;
- Help participants to continually improve their occupational knowledge.
DURATION
Participation in the program begins when students start their training and ends once the mandatory 24 months of driving experience with a probationary licence have elapsed. The duration of the program may therefore vary, depending on the student trainee. Classes 1, 2 or 3 can be added to a participant’s driver’s licence only once the program has been completed.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS – TRUCK DRIVER (10 modules)
1) Meet ONE of the following requirements of the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur [Quebec Department of Education and Higher Learning]:
- Have a secondary school diploma (SSD) or equivalent (Attestation of Secondary School Equivalence [AENS] or General Educational Development [GED] certificate); or
- Have completed Secondary 4 units in French, English and Mathematics; or
- Have functional prerequisites, i.e. have passed the general education development test (TDG); or
- Have a Vocational Studies Diploma (DVS) having the same category of Secondary 4 prerequisites; or
- Have a comparative evaluation of studies completed outside Quebec; or
- Have successfully completed equivalent education outside Canada and provide original diplomas and academic transcripts.
2) Comply with the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) requirements:
- Have a Class 5 probationary licence;
- Have a driving record with no demerit points;
- Have a driver’s licence that has never been suspended or revoked in the past two years following the accumulation of demerit points or a violation of the Criminal Code committed while driving a vehicle;
- Pass the SAAQ’s Class 1 vision test;
- Obtain a SAAQ Medical Examination Report M-28 and get if filled out by a physician;
- Have an assurance of a traineeship with a company eligible for the PEACVL.
3) Demonstrate an understanding of the instruction language.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS – BUS DRIVER (9 modules)
To participate in this program, candidates must:
1) Meet ONE of the following requirements of the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur [Quebec Department of Education and Higher Learning]:
- Have a secondary school diploma (SSD) or equivalent (Attestation of Secondary School Equivalence [AENS] or General Educational Development [GED] certificate); or
- Have successfully completed Secondary 3 units in the language of instruction, in English or French as a second language, and mathematics; or
- Have functional prerequisites: a certificate of successful completion of the general education development test (TDG) valid only from age 18 years; or
- Have a Vocational Studies Diploma (DVS) having the same category of Secondary 4 prerequisites; or
- Have a comparative evaluation of studies completed outside Quebec; or
- Have successfully completed equivalent education outside Canada and provide original diplomas and academic transcripts.
2) Comply with the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) requirements:
- Have a Class 5 probationary licence;

Registration procedure
The following documents are required to complete your application for admission:
- LARGE FORMAT birth certificate (issued by the Directeur de l’État Civil [director of civil status]);
- Proof of education (diploma, academic transcript, attestation);
- Recent driving record from the SAAQ;
- Photocopy of your driver’s licence;
- SAAQ proof certifying successful completion of the vision test;
- SAAQ proof certifying processing of the medical report (M28);
- Proof of residence for persons born outside Quebec.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS – BUSINESS COMPONENT
To sponsor a trainee, you must:
- Have a SATISFACTORY safety rating and not have been the subject of any SAAQ intervention in the past two years;
- Employ qualified employees (including employees specifically trained for the PEACVL) in a sufficient number to coach and supervise trainees;
- Set up a gradual employment integration program and take in trainees in compliance with this program;
- Produce trainee evaluation reports within the prescribed time frames.
In addition, a firm sponsoring a trainee must ensure that:
- During his/her period of supervised on‑the‑job training, the candidate drives a vehicle registered in Quebec;
- The transportation routes driven by the trainee are solely in Quebec;
- The trainee does not drive vehicles involved in oversize transportation or the transportation of hazard materials requiring the display of placards.
