No to bullying and violent behaviour at the CFTR
At the CFTR, we are all committed to living in a HEALTHY and SAFE environment.
BULLYING
“Bullying” means any repeated direct or indirect behaviour, comment, act or gesture, whether deliberate or not, including in cyberspace, which occurs in a context where there is a power imbalance between the persons concerned and which causes distress and injures, hurts, oppresses, intimidates or ostracizes.” Section 9, Quebec Act respecting Private education, 2012
Bully can take many forms:
- Calling a person names, making fun of, deriding, humiliating or threatening another person, or making sexist or racist remarks;
- Hitting, kicking, pushing, spitting at or punching a person or stealing or damaging a person’s property;
- Excluding a person from the group, isolating a person socially, gossiping or spreading rumours about a person, ridiculing another person or breaking up friendships;
- Using email, text messages, cell phones and/or social media to threaten, harass, embarrass or spread rumours about a person or to exclude a person from the group, tarnish a person’s reputation or break up a friendship;
- Spreading rumours, tittle‑tattle, malicious gossip and/or slanderous stories about a person and divulging secrets;
- Speaking behind a person’s back, writing nasty comments about a person (graffiti, email, etc.) and/or ridiculing or denigrating a person.
Situations of bullying or violent behaviour
If you are the victim of or witness bullying or violent behaviour, you can talk about it with a CFTR staff member at any time.
